Exergy Development Group

False claims require our response

08.22.2012

We’d like to set the record straight regarding our payment with vendors, including the Columbia Wildcat Cheerleaders. Anyone who has been following the news knows that while we have paid more than $1 million for the Exergy Tour, we are behind on some of our payments to our vendors. We know that can put some of them in a tight spot and for that we apologize and we want them to know we are committed to paying them all as quickly as possible.

Exergy has always been committed to doing the right thing, whether it’s in how we provide energy or how we deal with our partners. As soon as we are informed about a debt or obligation, we respond immediately and we encourage anyone to get in touch with us. So it is with great disappointment that we read some comments from the Columbia Wildcat Cheerleading team quoting an anonymous source that “Exergy would not be paying.”

Nothing could be further from the truth. This team did a good job cleaning up after the event and they will be paid soon. To our misfortune, we relied on contractors to hire, direct and communicate with our vendors and in this case, they dropped the ball. The first we were ever informed about the Columbia group not getting paid was Aug. 14 and we immediately responded to a representative, saying we would pay them as soon as possible. So we were shocked to see online posts from the Columbia group saying they would not be paid.

This is especially painful for us at Exergy, because we are committed to local improvement. Our investments in biomass, wind and solar projects bring jobs and tax revenue to small towns. Our sponsorship of the largest professional women’s cycling race does much to advance women’s athletics but much less visible is our sponsorship of many local groups, including another cheerleading squad in Idaho for which we purchased uniforms earlier this year.

Word travels fast on the Internet, whether that word is accurate or not. If any of our vendors ever have a problem or questions, we invite them to contact us before posting incomplete and inaccurate information at Elizabeth@exergydevelopment.com .
